MOVIE REVIEW: OLD BOY

STARRING: MIN-SIK CHOI

DIRECTED BY: CHAN-WOOK PARK

RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 21,2003

GENRE: DRAMA / THRILLER / DARK COMEDY

I was truly amazed when I first saw this movie. This is a sick, wicked, crazy freakin movie. It's about a man, Oh Dae-su(Choi Min-sik), who was kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. The cell he was in resembled an apartment with no windows. It looked like a regular apartment. He had a TV, bathroom, pictures on the wall, your typical apartment except he could not get out. The TV was his life, that's all he had. After being trapped in the apartment for 15 years he was finally released, but he has no idea who imprisoned him and why. Now, Oh Dae-su is out for vengeance, and vows to find the person responsible for his imprisonment.

Being imprisoned in an apartment for 15 years can change someone into a deranged lunatic. Which makes Oh Dae-su a man to reckon with. An unstoppable force who will stop at nothing to get revenge. Awesome flick! I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE WATCHMEN

DIRECTED BY: ZACK SNYDER

RELEASE DATE: MARCH 6,2009

GENRE: ACTION SCI-FI THRILLER / DRAMA / MYSTERY

The Watchmen was the latest super hero movie by DC Comics. It wasn't the greatest release by DC but the movie has its finer moments. Set back in the 1980's, The Watchmen were a team of masked vigilantes who have all retired from crime fighting, and gone their separate ways. When one of their members of the team is murdered, the investigation begins on finding out who's the culprit. Unfortunately, the movie was just too long, almost three hours! I was not too impressed by the story, nor by the performances from the actors. I was very intrigued when they went into the side story of Dr. Manhattan, which is the only part of the movie that I enjoyed. They show how Dr. Manhattan gained his powers, and became a God-like super hero.

All in all the movie was OK and very watchable. I give this move a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

MOVIE REVIEW: BURN AFTER READING

STARRING: BRAD PITT, JOHN MALKOVICH, GEORGE CLOONEY

DIRECTED BY: ETHEN AND JOEL COHEN

RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 12,2008

GENRE: DARK COMEDY

This is the definition of a dark comedy. A true work of movie art with this one. If your into the twisted theory of life, then this one's for you. Comes with a crew of great actors: Brad Pitt, John Malkavich, and George Clooney just to name a few. John Malkavich plays as Osbourne Cox, a just fired C.I.A. agent who's wife Katie(Tilda Swinton) is having an affair with Harry Pfarrer(George Clooney). Harry is an internet hoar who meets a lot of women online and has sex with them. Osbourne's personal memoirs end up on a CD and into the hands of local fitness trainer Chad Feldheimer(Brad Pitt). Chad tries to "persuade" Osbourne into giving him a reward to return the CD, but when Linda Litzki(Frances McDormand) gets involved, having high hopes into getting the money she needs for cosmetic surgery, all hell breaks loose. It's just a really twisted dark comedy. While very entertaining it was full of surprises. Favorite dark comedy on my list. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.
